Reading Response: Second chapter of The Grace of Great Things by Robert Grudin
"There are many forms of inspiration, all of which seem to have mysterious origins. The word "inspire" came from the belief that the divine gave creativity to those that were worthy. Rather than having the art placed mysteriously, in the modern age we believe inspiration to be an entrenchment in studying, experiencing, and experimenting in the art of one's choice. Inspiration brings to mind a healing -- making something complete. Being inspired by something leaves the artist dedicated even when the problems are hard, because the pursuit of beauty is worth chasing. Inspiration is everything one might think of when they think of "life." It is strong, thorough, has integrity, sets standards, and processes the past. There isn't a perfect algorithm for how to be inspired, but establishing behaviors that are conducive to inspiration can create the environment necessary for the inspiration to come."
